Pentagon: Taliban resurgent while we're tied down in Iraq

Sun, 29 Jun 2008 07:41:34 PDT
On Friday the Defense Department released two reports to Congress about Afghanistan (as required by law). One is the first biennial report on security in the country, the other a plan for sustaining the Afghan National Security Forces (both PDFs). The news is grim. But just as with the Iraq quarterly reports, the DoD tries to put a positive spin on

Fast Food Goes Organic

Sun, 29 Jun 2008 07:14:36 PDT
Organic to Go, a Seattle organic fast food company founded in 2004, has purchased cafes and catering operations. The company plans to create lunch places serving organic meals. Another showed that, after bite-sized desserts, the hottest trends in food were locally grown and organic produce. Organi

Tech Review: Vysr - A Lookup Bar, Not A Toolbar

Sun, 29 Jun 2008 07:14:57 PDT
I found Vysr from FastCompay.TV's demo-cum-interview of Guda Venkatesh (Alumnus of IIT, Kanpur). Vysr is a new toolbar released in beta for Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. It aims to enhance the browsing experience by giving easy access to popular services like Google News, Wikipedia, YouTube, MapQuest and others (called Apps) within the current view of the Webpage. Even better, it adds a context of the selected text to these apps. What this means is that you can select "abc" on a webp

Chinese Regime 'Mouthpiece' Gives Distorted Picture

Sun, 29 Jun 2008 02:33:31 PDT
Anyone who reads the Chinese-language press that carries the articles of the Xinhua News Agency will have a grossly distorted picture of what has been happening in Flushing. This should not be surprising. The title of a report about the agency by Reporters Without Borders (RWB) is "Xinhua: The World's Biggest Propaganda Agency."

A via media schism

Sun, 29 Jun 2008 03:23:09 PDT
As only the Anglican Church could, it is a schism which is not quite a schism, consistent with its founding principles, consonant with its entire history. GAFCON (has anyone told them that 'unium' is not a Latin word?) has formalised the conservative wing of the Anglican Communion and issued the Jerusalem Declaration which effectively creates a church within a church, or, for Cranmer's Roman Catholic communicants, yet another 'ecclesial community' in an already deficient ecclesial community.
